The Boathouse Norway
About The Boathouse Residency
The Boathouse Residency is a site-specific and self-directed residency that takes place in a simple boathouse studio. Participants will have the freedom to explore the fjord, experiment with new ideas, and engage deeply with the island’s unique environment. Water is both medium and metaphor, an inspiration for works that respond to shifting tides, changing weather, and the fluid nature of place.
Red Moon Studio welcomes applicants whose work engages with water, whether through movement, environment, material exploration, inner processes, or community-based practice relating to a sea world under threat.
About the Host
Host and Lesley MFA alum Laurie Vestøl works with performance installations centered on bodies of water. Her practice often intersects with themes such as site-specific installation, creative dialogue, inner processes, and forms of quiet activism in response to environmental, humanitarian, and community challenges. More about her work can be found here: https://www.instagram.com/skysmithvestol/
Laurie Vestøl is an island-based artist with a background in landscape architecture and city planning. Her practice combines swimming, kayaking, and underwater photography in the southeast Norwegian archipelago, exploring personal myths of transformation through sensory, site-specific performance installations.
Her upcoming work River—part of Porsgrunn’s city art loop in August 2025—features 300 porcelain talismans activated by river currents, performers, and local participants. She is also co-creating Floating Conversations, an annual sea-based happening at the Boathouse on Sandøya, combining video, textile sculpture, and performance installation.
Through Red Moon Studio, Vestøl organizes residencies, workshops, and happenings at the Boathouse. Her work embodies silent activism—a quiet, embodied form of environmental engagement.
Are we, perhaps, searching for the oceanic feeling—a deep sense of oneness with the world around us?
About the Recipient
Art+Everywhere, in collaboration with Red Moon Studios, is excited to present Elizabeth Mihaltse Lindy as the inaugural boathouse residency recipient. Lindy (b. 1970) is an interdisciplinary artist whose work centers on themes of the female body, transformation, and resilience through a diverse range of media. Her recent solo exhibition, an offering of gravity and grace, was presented at Super Secret Projects in Beacon, NY.
Lindy holds a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from Lesley Art+Design. She currently lives and works in New York’s Hudson Valley.
In Lindy's application, she writes "through this residency, I hope to deepen my ongoing inquiry into how water shapes both body and psyche, and how art can hold the space between loss and renewal with tenderness and resilience."
